According to ICS (International Chambers of Shipping 2020), there are 5 main crewing countries for both officers and ratings.

-              The Philippines. They are the leading supply countries of ratings in the world.

-              China. They are the biggest provider of officers in the world and second by rating supply.

-              Indonesia

-              The Russian Federation

-              Ukraine.

The general number of seafarers in the world  is 1.647,500, of who 774.000 are officerare and 873.500 are ratings.
